

Jon was born in Omaha, Nebraska on January 31, 1934. Jon’s family moved to the warmer climate of Texas in 1939, and later to Houston, where Jon graduated from Lamar High School and the University of Houston. Jon married his wife, Johnnie Pearl (Brock) Whitfield on April 23, 1957 in Houston; Jon and Johnnie enjoyed 58 years together before her passing in 2015.
During his successful career as a piping designer/draftsman, Jon worked for several companies, including a career of 25+ years with Foster Wheeler. He was a loving family man who enjoyed spending his time with family and friends and pursuing his passions of fishing and hunting. Jon’s biggest role in his later years was as a loving caregiver to his wife Johnnie.
Jon is survived by his daughter Mary Beth Whitfield (Michael Sanchez), his son Jon Mark Whitfield (Erin), his granddaughter Alexandra Whitfield and his grandson Ian Whitfield. Jon is preceded in death by his wife Johnnie, his parents Landen Green Whitfield and Mary Etta Whitfield, his brothers Soren Eugene Whitfield and William Orville Whitfield.
As Jon would want his family and friends to prioritize their own health and well-being during the current pandemic, services will be limited to immediate family only.

Jon’s family asks that family/friends post stories and memories of Jon on his Dignity Memorial website so others can share in the memories of his life and its impact upon others.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Coastal Conservation Association - Texas.
