José Ary Martinez, left this world at the very young age of 92. He passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021 in Cypress, Texas. This stubborn old man held on to life for as long as he could, but God was calling, and he went running.
He was born in São Paulo, Brazil to José Antonio and Theresa Martinez, and he was the eldest of two children. He lived in Brazil up until his young adult life, then ventured to the United States to pursue education. In 1969, he married his wife Teresa, whom he was married to up until his last breath. Their life together began in the Bay Area, and in 1970, they gave birth to their only child Mayra. They spent the majority of their life together in California, until they moved to Texas, one year ago, to be closer to family.
Some may have known him as a grumpy, stubborn old man, but to us he was a husband, a father, a grandfather, and great-grand father. He was always there to lend a helping hand, even when his strength and abilities did not allow it, but of course he thought he was as strong as an ox. If you ever needed to borrow anything from a pencil to money or even his car, it always came with a lecture and or contract, but he did it willingly. He was a very sentimental man, who kept the smallest mementos and cherished reminiscing on old memories.
He was a very curious and intelligent man, who had a zest for collecting “fine” art, “vintage” clocks, horse figurines; among many other things that he would find on his weekly adventures to the local second-hand stores. He was quite the handy-man, always tinkering with anything he could find, with the “I Can fix it” mentality.
Even though he was a proud Brazillian, he supported his beloved Barcelona soccer team. He would never miss a game, and would sit in his living room, giving his loud commentary and screaming—GOOOOOOALLLLLLL!
Now that he has his clocks on every wall in heaven, we know he will be present at every big moment in our lives.
Vovô, we love you— you have no idea how much. Forever in our hearts.
…
He is survived by: His wife Teresa; daughter Mayra and her husband Scott; Granddaughter Kylie; Granddaughter Ariana and her husband Travis, and Granddaughter Carissa. And then there was his pride and joy, great-granddaughter Sofia Grace. There are also his nephews, Rene and Erik and nieces, Denise, Chris and Karen, and their families, as well as much beloved family, in Brazil and in California.
Preceding him in death were: his Father Jose Antonio, his mother Theresa and Brother Delvo.
