Surrounded by his family on June 12, 2020 loving husband, father of four, and grandfather of many Jose Miguel Sandoval passed away at the age of 81. Anybody close to him knew him as Tata, a name he chose to be called when his first grandchild was born which quickly became part of his identity.
He was born on July 13, 1938 in Freire, Chile to Juan and Ana Sandoval. Pursuing his love of aviation he enrolled in the Chilean Air Force and quickly gained knowledge of the mechanics behind these exquisite machines. Using this decision as a stepping stone in his career, he would go on to travel to the United States in search for a better life for his family with nothing but a suitcase and a dream.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Alicia Sandoval, whom he married in 1965 in Santiago, Chile and their four children, Geraldine Kitchen and husband Michael (Amarillo, TX), Miguel Sandoval and wife Jacklynn (Tulsa, OK), Viviana Anchondo and husband Rick (Spring, TX), and Antonio Sandoval (Spring, TX). He is also survived his two brothers Luis and Lem and one sister Neva. Additionally he is survived by his seven grandchildren Richard, Hailee, Ethan, Jamison, Giselle, Danielle and Chandler, and many nieces and nephews.
Jose Miguel (Tata) showed his love in many ways but cooking was always a passion that he enjoyed. Being in the kitchen and creating a meal for his loved ones, put a smile on his face that was as big as anybody's appetite. In 2003 he retired from his career as an airline mechanic and fulfilled a lifelong dream of buying property in his home country Chile. Splitting his time between Chile and Houston he spent his time with family and nature. Coined "Schneider" those close to him never hesitated to call him for any handyman services and his excitement to help could fill a room. His constant zest for life and generous heart can be a constant reminder for anybody who needs a shining example of living.
The family will gather on Thursday, June 18, 2020 for viewing at Funeraria del Angel located at 5100 North Fwy, Houston, TX.
