Joseph Felton Lilly, Sr. (also known by many other aliases such as “Big Poppa”, “Felton”, “Joe Lilly”, & “Warrior”), departed this life on September 27, 2014 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, TX at the age of 64. He was born on February 14, 1950 in Lake Charles, LA to the late and great Albert Lilly Sr. and Edna Mae Angelle Lilly who both have gone to live with the Lord also. Felton was almost named “Valentino” by his mom since he was born on Valentine’s Day but the gift of love still carried with him all of the days of his life. He was the “Coolest Cat” you would ever meet and always had nothing but love for everyone.
We rejoice that he is no longer suffering and is now at peace in the arms of the Lord and his beloved wife Mollie. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife: Mollie “Love Chile” Lilly; loving parents Albert Lilly Sr. and Edna Mae Angelle Lilly; loving brother: David Lilly and a loving sister: Cheryl “Diane” Lilly.
Survivors include:
His only son: Joseph F. Lilly, Jr. and wife Janet of Tennessee.
Two daughters: Joyce M. Fontenot and Karen Lilly Means and husband Harry all of Houston.
Grandchildren: Jamaal, Janae, Javonte, Jaylan, and Joseph (III) Lilly {Joseph}; Eric, Brandon, David, Jerald, and Wesley Fontenot {Joyce}; and Kamree and Sydnee Means {Karen}.
Great Grandchildren: Jaylen Muse, Jayden Adams, Kameron Lilly, Chloe Lilly and Brianna Fontenot.
One Sister: Donna Lilly of Desoto, TX
Brothers: Albert Lilly, Sr. and wife Iris of Port Arthur, TX; Anthony Lilly, Sr. and wife Gracie of Lake Charles, LA; Jerry Lilly, Sr. and wife Debra of Humble, TX.
And a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Felton served in the U.S. Marines and lived a very full-filling life. He was very down to earth and loved to dress to impress. You couldn’t help but love him with his cool, calm and collected personality.
Felton was a life-long resident of Lake Charles, La and a member of New Sunlight Baptist Church until he and Mollie had to relocate to Houston, TX in February 2011 after a tragic event. However the move was a blessing in disguise because it allowed his daughters and grandsons to care for him in their homes during the last years of his life.
A very special Memorial Service, Celebrating the life and legacy of Mr. Joseph F. Lilly, Sr. will be held on Saturday October 4, 2014 from 12:00pm-2:00pm at Brookside Funeral Home Champions: 3410 FM 1960 Houston, Texas 77068, phone: 281-397-0800.
