Joseph Osei-Frimpong PhD is known as Dr. Joseph, Dad, Uncle Joseph, Brother Joseph but mostly Joseph. He was affectionately called Sosso by his classmates. In his native village Tano-Odumasi of the Ashanti Region Ghana he is also known as Legend.
Joseph Osei-Frimpong was born on September 24, 1951 to Father OP Kofi Frimpong and mother Madam Akua Badu.
He was a brilliant child and became known as Legend because of his “Big Brain.” He was so gifted, “the villagers accused his mother of stealing the brains of the other children and giving it to him.” Sosso spent most of his childhood attending boarding school where he was teased for his small stature. According to his friends he was very strong willed and fought off the bullies who teased him.
Joseph attended Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) located in Kumasi, Ghana. After graduating from KNUST he worked for National Services in Ghana for 1 year. He migrated to the United States of America in 1977 to attend Texas Southern University where he received his Master’s degree in Biology. He later got accepted in the Doctorate Program at Texas Women’s University (TWU) where he obtained his Doctorate of Philosophy in Molecular Biology and Masters in Healthcare Administration.
Joseph met his wife Diana McDonald on his 2nd day at the University. Diana was assigned to work as his lab assistant for his professor in the Biology Department. Despite accidentally killing all of the research files that she was assigned to care for they developed a fast friendship which blossomed into romance. In September 1990 they got married. This union produced 2 sons Malik Osei-Frimpong and Salim Osei-Frimpong.
Those left behind are resolute in their intentions to carry his legacy and spirit onward with purpose, love and passion.
