Joseph F. Wozny, born April 4, 1919 to George Wozny and Anna [Drzal] Wozny in Franklin, Pennsylvania died February 14, 2014 in Houston, Texas. Preceded in death by his wife, Florence A. [Waselewski] Wozny, his parents, brothers: Victor, John, Edward, Stanley, Frank, his sisters: Julie (Berry), Mary (Klink), and Catherine (Kish). He is survived by his sons Joseph T. Wozny and wife, Noemi Melendres; George T. Wozny and wife Puey-Kwang Tan; his 4 grandchildren: Daniel Leifer [Karla Fematt], Melissa Kelley [Kevin Kelley], Ryan Wozny [Abby Johnson] and Andrew Melendres [Langley Garland]; and 6 great grandchildren.
Joe was a World War II Veteran and served as a Medical Technician in the 15th Evacuation Hospital. He served in North Africa and Europe and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and a European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 6 Bronze Service Stars. He retired after working for over 40 years as a coal miner in Pennsylvania and later moved to Texas.
A celebration of his life will be held at a memorial mass on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 11:30 AM at the Prince of Peace Catholic community chapel located at 19222 Tomball Parkway, Houston, Texas 77070. Internment service will follow at 2:00 PM at the Houston VA National Cemetery located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038.
