Joyce Bjorkgren Rivette

She was born in Metairie, Louisiana in 1955 to Alfred Hugh Bjorkgren and Martha Sue Anderson Bjorkgren. Joyce attended Riverdale High School before graduating with a bachelors degree from the University of Louisiana – New Orleans. Before retirement, she worked at Miller and Lents Ltd as a senior engineering technician. She was a past worthy matron of the Houston Chapter 385, OES, a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and active in multiple church groups throughout her life. She enjoyed playing piano and was skilled at adapting guitar chords into piano music. Joyce was active in the genealogy community, starting with researching her own family and branching out to maintaining records for many families in Louisiana. She enjoyed sewing some of her own clothes in her youth and later in life picked up quilting.

Joyce was preceded in death by Alfred Hugh Bjorkgren and Martha Sue Anderson Bjorkgren and is survived by Husband Charles Denis Rivette, Daughter Catherine Marie Rivette, Son Denis Alexander Rivette and wife Sharessa, Brother William “Bill” Bjorkgren and wife Amy.

The memorial service is July 20, 2024 at St. Matthew’s UMC, 4300 N. Shepherd Drive, Houston, TX 77018 at 1 PM. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Matthew’s in Joyce’s memory.
