Juanita Ruth Marshall Simkins, 95, of Houston, passed away Sunday, November 2, after a brief illness. She was born to the late Benjamin and Ruth Marshall, July 23, 1919, in Electra, Texas. She was the youngest of three daughters. Juanita, affectionately known as Neet, graduated from Harrold High School in 1936. From the age of 7, Neet knew that she wanted to be a nurse. She began her nursing career shortly after graduating high school by working 7 years at Electra Hospital. Neet moved to Houston to pursue her RN degree; she graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. During nurse's training, she was introduced to Charlie Leonard Simkins, Jr. by her future sister-in-law, Elma. She married the love of her life on May 28, 1948. For over 20 years, Neet cherished working as a school nurse within the Aldine Independent School District (Stovall Jr. High, MacArthur High and Nimitz High). After retiring, she loved volunteering at Houston Northwest Medical Center. In addition to volunteering, Neet and Leonard enjoyed traveling the world. Neet was an avid Houston sports fan, but her passion was supporting the University of Texas Longhorns. Family was the most important part of Neet's life. Her greatest enjoyment was being surrounded by family and friends every Sunday in her home. Neet is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, and sisters: Geneva and Virginia. She is survived by her daughters: Shirley Simkins Tijerina and Sharon Louise Simkins; sons: Charlie Leonard Simkins, III, Kenneth Marshall Simkins and wife Michelle; grandchildren: Robin Simkins, Shelbie Simkins, Jeremy Simkins and wife Simona, Kayla Simkins Campos and husband Jordan, Taylor Simkins, Amanda Eggeling, Charlie Eggeling; great-granddaughters: Joey Campos and Johnny Campos; many special cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and very dear friends. The family wishes to thank Silverado Hospice and Consider the Lilies, Inc. for the special care that Mom received. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, November 6, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Services will be held on Friday, November 7, at 11:00 AM in the Grand Chapel of Brookside Funeral Home. Interment to follow in Brookside Memorial Park. "We love you and miss you Mom and Dad"
