Judith Cleary Heck Phelps, Judy, was born December 10, 1941. She married the love of her life, Francis Wayne Phelps in February 1973, and a little over a year later, they had their little girl, Jennifer Lynn Phelps. Jennifer was the love of both their lives. Unfortunately, Judy lost her husband in March of 1976. She was never fully whole again after that, but she did find great joy in raising Jennifer, and even greater joy when her grandson Connor came in 2007.
Judy was born in Corpus Christi to Charles Martin Heck and Lucille Mew Heck. Four years after she was born, her only sibling, her sister Pat, was born. Judy loved her sister very much and Pat’s son, her nephew Randy. She always looked forward to his visits.
Judy came from a very large family, with so many cousins, it was hard to keep track of them all. The 6 Mew sisters started it all and they would gather for all their holidays at their Texas ranch. She had thousands of happy family memories from growing up and loved telling all the stories to whoever would listen.
Her greatest accomplishment in life, outside her family, was her job working for Eastern Airlines and getting to travel the world. Austria, Fiji, and Paris were among her favorites. She loved visiting Austria most and would talk about how the Sound of Music was filmed there and how she visited St. Michael’s Basilica church. The highlight of all her trips.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, her son Donald Fuchs, and her parents, Charles Martin Heck Jr, and Lucille Mew Heck. She is survived by her daughter Jennifer, her grandson Connor, her sister Patricia Weeden, her nephew, Randy Harrison and his wife Dana Harrison, and their son Cory Harrison, plus many amazing cousins that are too numerous to name.
Services will be, Mass on Thursday, December 18th, at Noon at Epiphany of the Lord Church, 1530 Norwalk Dr., in Katy, followed by graveside services at 2:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery, at 13001 Katy Freeway in Houston.
