

June Marie Cooper, age 86, of Houston, Texas passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025. Born to Chesley Joseph Martel & Adele Wyble Martel, June had 4 sisters & 1 brother and life was all about family. June never got angry; her spirit was always kind and understanding. June attended J S Clark in St Landry Parish Louisiana until the 11th grade. In those days there was NO 12th grade. Her interest was in Home Economics (Cooking). June moved to Houston to live with her older sister (Zola). She began working at St Elizabeth Hospital in Houston, TX with her 2 older sisters Zola & Elsie. Later, June worked for Harris County School District. She was always family orientated. As June began to settle into married life, they always remained close to her siblings. June was all about love for her family. Patient, kind with a loving heart.
June met Cleaster John Cooper in 1958 under the watchful eye of her older Sister & Brother-in-Law. Wilton & Zola were watching & protecting the younger siblings. As June began to settle into married life, she always remained close to her siblings. She was all about family, in her younger days she attended Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. June loved Sam Cooke & Solomon Burke. We can remember the smile on her face one day when she played Sam Cooke “You Send Me”. That was a song both she & John loved. June played it over & over when they started dating. She enjoyed learning her family's roots. She also loved taking care of others; she was very compassionate and always willing to listen. Family was everything to her.
June is preceded in death by her sisters, Zola Kennison, Elsie Bolden, Angela Cooper, Chesley Martell Jr., and Ceclia bruno; daughter, Chasta Lovall Cooper; husband, Cleaster John Cooper Jr., and grandson, Fabian Cooper.
A viewing for June will be held Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. A homegoing celebration service will occur Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 11:00 AM with Burial to follow at Brookside Memorial Park. Immediately to follow a repass will occur Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM.
