Karol Canino

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Karol Canino age 81 of Houston, TX. He passed away early Sunday morning, January 22, 2023 of natural causes. Karol was born in Camaguey, Cuba on June 6, 1941. He grew up in Cuba and left many beloved family and friends when he moved to Madrid, Spain in 1971. Shortly thereafter his life serendipitously changed when he met the love of his life, Amparo Cowley, on the subway. He was deeply devoted to his wife and was blessed with two wonderful children. Karol was a vivacious soul, which lead to continued years of success in sales in various markets. He retired at the age of 70, he was a talented guitar player and enjoyed listening to live music. He was also an avid baseball fan and often spend his free time watching the Houston Astros with his son. He loved seafood especially lobster and crab legs. He traveled with his family often to Galveston because he said the seafood was better than Houston’s seafood. He loved to go out with his son on different occasions to listen to music, out to eat, and go to different sporting events with him. His son’s friends always called him Senor Canino and was like a second father to them. His daughter always wanted to dance with him because he was a great dancer. He always cherished his family time with those in Miami and in Cuba. He longed for his Motherland, especially the countryside. Karol was dearly loved by those closest to him and will be very sorely missed. Karol is proceeded in death by his parents, Rosalina and Higinio Canino; siblings, Manolo Canino, Kadel Canino of Camaguey, Cuba and Cira Canino Lopez of Miami, FL. He is survived by his wife, Amparo Canino, of Houston, TX; daughter Carol Canino of Houston, TX; son Karol K. Canino of Houston, TX. He leaves many treasured, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, January 29th, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 3 PM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. His Rosary will begin at 3 PM in the Chapel. Funeral Mass will be Monday, January 30, 2023 at 2:30 PM at St. Cyril of Alexandria, 10503 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX 77042 Karol Canino's final resting place shall be located at Memorial Oaks Cemetery after cremation.
