To Garland,  Nia, Isaiah and Avery and all who Katheryn held dear,     I am praying that the Lord comfort and keep you  in this time of deep sorrow.  I pray that your sweet memories of your Mother/ Gran-Gran's  laughter and  love for her children and grandchildren warm your hearts at this time of grief.

Let me tell you about MY Kathy (aka Grammy Kathy as the boys knew her.)  She was my first, truest friend here in Texas.  I met her my very first day of starting work at Neiman Marcus-Nov. 1984.  My introduction to her was to happen up on her and the other fulltime PBX Operator, Vernon, in the walk in Phone Central room where the two of them were wrestling, on the floor, over a note or letter that the other didn't want the one to see.  Kathy was in her mid 40's and Vernon was in his late 30's.  Let me set the scene, Vernon was a 6 foot, 280lb black gay man that Kathy affectionately called "Juicy Bootie".   Needless to say, this was quite the shellshock for this little 18yr old country bumpkin from Michigan. 
From that day forward, Kathy and I were tied at the hip for my full 16 years at NM and then the strings just stretched a bit when I left to work elsewhere. 
Kathy lovingly took me into her care.  If you have witnessed me on the phone with customers and my manner of speaking, professionalism, confidence, and kindness, all the credit goes to Mama Hollis.  She was the kindest and caring person that anyone would have the pleasure to speak to and be around.  She was extremely proud of her Phone Operator job and being known through the whole Neiman Marcus Company for her professionalism.  Customer's adored her too.   They would come up to the Gift Wrapping Station just to poke in and say Hello to her.  Hugs and "Hello Sweetie" were always exchanged.  
Thankfully I also had my first experience of a "naughty phone caller" in her presence and she taught me just how to handle those fools.  
I can't properly express how grateful I am to have had Kathy as my friend and mentor during our time together. 
Kathy, I love you, I miss you, I am grateful for you loving me.  I know you are in the loving arms of Jesus and happy to be reunited with your sons and husband.  Rest in that Sweet, Sweet Peace my friend, until we meet again.
