

She was born in Amarillo, Texas, to Juanita Cross and Kermit Godwin Dyche. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin Butler Music School in 1958 as an accomplished pianist and harpist. She met Thomas H. Weed in college, and they were married almost 60 years, until his death in early 2017. They moved to Houston in 1961, where she lived for over 58 years. In 2019, she moved to Kerrville to be closer to family.
She had a passion for giving back to and supporting a variety of community organizations. As a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, she held various alumnae leadership roles, including Charter President and Executive Director of the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation for many years. She served on the Board of Trustees for the Harris County Heritage Society and volunteered for numerous arts programs in Houston, as well as the Houston Chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.
Kay’s faith was very important to her. She was active at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church as a member of the healing ministry and the Daughters of the King for over 50 years.
Kay treasured time with her family. As a master organizer, she loved planning family events – both big and small. She served as a mentor to so many, and supported each person’s dreams and celebrated their gifts. She had a fabulous sense of humor and a gift for storytelling. She would often recount family history and humorous stories to newer family generations.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. Weed, and her sister, Anita Dyche. Survivors include her daughters, Elizabeth Weed and Margaret Greenshield and her husband, Loren; grandchildren Katrina Greenshield and her husband, Clay Hooper, Jessica Greenshield and Carissa Adair; great grandchild Henry Thomas Hooper; brother-in-law Jim Weed and his wife Mary; nephews Keith Yezer, Jeremey Cuellar, and Jacob Cuellar; nieces Eleanor Weed Deering, Carol Ann Weed, Kathy Weed, Jamie Hessel, and Tess Weed; and long-time special friend from Alvin, Carolyn Rogan.
A memorial service is to be conducted at three o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 21st of April, in the sanctuary of The Church of St. John The Divine, 2450 River Oaks Blvd in Houston, where The Rev. Doug Richnow is to officiate.
Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
The family would like to thank Elizabeth Parker and Shelly Kothmann, Dr. Lawrence Alder, Kay’s dedicated care team, and Peterson Hospice for their incredible compassion during her illness.
