

Kevin Dushawn Johnson was born on January 24,1971, to Roeshell Powell and Thelma Ree Ware (who both preceded him in death). Kevin was the ninth born of ten children. Kevin attended Parker Academy grammar school and from there attended Paul Robeson High school where he was a member of “Dem Boyz” dance group and graduated with honors in 1989. Kevin decided to further his education by obtaining an associate’s degree through the University of Phoenix.
Kevin professed his love for the Lord at an early age and became a valuable member of Beacon Holy Nazarene Church in Chicago, IL where he served under the guidance of the Officiating Pastor and Co Pastor Mary C. Jenkins and Elder Eleanor Banks (who both preceded him in death).
Kevin joined the military at the age of 18. He was stationed at the Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi in 1990. There he meets Kammetha Hodge, and they were married on February 14,1992 for 18 years and from this union they produced three children Kevin Jr., Kayla, and Kobe.
Kevin was a part of the Air Force Squadron football and basketball teams. He was a Senior Airman Electronic Warfare Specialist. Kevin served 8 years in the military and not only departed with an honorable discharge, he also obtained various medals such as: The Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Southwest Asia Medal while being deployed in combat during the Persian Gulf War.
Kevin met Samitra Irabor while working together and they were married March 31, 2012, at Mon Bel Ami Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. They lovingly raised two daughters Brasia and Iraneisha. Together they shared the passion of traveling and making lasting memories.
Kevin spent his last three years of life with his beloved companion Amber Hill, who built a world together, not perfect but theirs. A world filled with memories, various adventures, and multiple sacrifices between the two of them that only intensified their love for one another. In Kevin’s most vulnerable state, he entrusted Amber to be exactly what he needed; someone steady, strong and present.
Kevin leaves to cherish his loving memory: Five children; Kevin Jr., Kayla, Kobe, Brasia, and Iraneisha. Kammetha, Samitra, Amber, seven siblings: Adolphus Graves, Tolie Graves (Crystine). James Ware, LaTangia Brickhouse (Tony preceded him in death), Margaret Williams (Sylvester), Tonya Davis (Victor), Alvin Johnson (Amy), Rudy Graves and Yolanda Graves (who both preceded him in death). Three adopted siblings: Steve Harvey, Shaun Harvey (Helen), and Keisha Harvey. An adopted mother and grandmother: Diane Haskins and Martha Dunn and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
