To be home with our Lord, Monday, September 6, 2021.
KK passed away from Cancer at the age of 63 this Monday, Labor Day, in the early morning, with an announcement presenting her to heaven by a booming thunderstorm in the Champions/Houston area. At her side was her loving sister Kelly and KK’s loving husband, Forrest.
Kimi was born in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Then lived in the Great State of Texas, down in the valley, in Harlingen, Texas, where her very nice brother was born, then to Corpus Christi/Portland, Texas, where her so so nice sister was born, then eventually to Houston, Texas. Some of which may be disputed vigorously.
Kimi went to High School in Houston at Spring Woods HS and then to the High School of Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA). As we all know she had very gifted qualities and was also often times seen singing and playing her guitar. She graduated and majored in “Drama”.
Growing up Kimi always had a knack of meeting and then keeping long life friendships. She spent many of her younger years on the beaches and bays of Portland and Corpus Christi. I believe this is where she developed her love for traveling to sandy shores and fishing. She eventually made this into a long career in doing and being around what she loved. Her love for her friends and family were second to none as all of us could attest to with countless experiences. Some of which may have been spoken but with others remaining in the vault. (Some stories, in Kimi’s large/close group of girlfriends, if asked, will most assuredly deny).
Kim was employed by CCA Texas, formerly Gulf Coast Conservation Association (GCCA) for 30 years, since the early 1980s. Her love and passion for the water, environment, animals and betterment of the Gulf of Mexico was a way of life for her. Working at GCCA is where she shined and put forth those efforts to help make a difference. Kim was an Assistant Director in charge of many local chapters to help raise funds for the organization. She worked very closely with her volunteers, always making sure they understood how important it was to take their love of fishing to a new level by spreading the mission statement of conservation not just for the present, but for the future. Kim was highly respected not only by the volunteers, but by the entire CCA staff. She was an asset to the organization even after she retired by becoming a volunteer for the Northwest Houston Chapter. Kim was a dear friend of CCA and will be missed. CCA was also the place where she met and married Forrest whom both shared the love for fundraising, fishing, and the love of many of the friends made at CCA.
Proceeding was her beloved Mother Betty Smith, Father Berlon Joe Brown, Step-Father “Whit” Whitford, grandmother “Mimi” Andrea Farris, and Grandfather “Papaw” JP Farris.
KK is survived by husband Forrest Vollentine and his children Lisa Vollentine Schrader, Chris Vollentine, Jim Vollentine and too many nieces and nephews to count. Kimi is the dear sister to Kelly McNeill, who is married to Darrell McNeill, with nephews Austin McNeill and Hunter McNeill. Her brother Bobby Brown, who is married to Dian Brown, niece Taylor Brown, nephews Weston Brown and Peyton Brown. Ann Hochman who is married to Kevin Hochman, nieces Emma Hochman and Britney Hochman. And Two Step-Sisters, Margie and Patti and their children. Also beloved family members to KK are Stuart and Paula Smith.
Viewing will be held at the Memorial Oaks, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas, 77079, Friday, September 10, 2021, between 5:00pm and 8:00pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at the same location at 10:00am.
