Klara (Claudvia) was born in Pushkin, Russia to her parents, Alexander Karovichev and Tonya Karovicheva on April 6,1928. Our grandmother, Tonya, passed away and Alexander married Kilya from Kiev, Ukraine, Russia. During the war, German army pushed into Pushkin. Mother and other townspeople were hiding the basement of their local Church in Pushkin. My grandfather Alexander with other neighbors decided to leave and find food. As they were leaving the Church they were killed by a cannon blast. As the families ran out to look for their love ones, the Germans came in and took all the woman and children to the train station. The Germans separated the older children and women with the younger children. They sent mother with the older children who could work in the war factories in Fulda, Germany. Kilya, mother’s step-mother and mother’s brother, Tolya and sisters, Maria and Violet, remained behind in Pushkin.
After the war, Mother was placed in a DP Camp (displaced person camp). Mother and other girlfriends was asked to go to a dance, transported to dance by the Army and there met my father. They were united in marriage on November 4, 1946 with their wedding taking place in Fulda, Germany. They lived mostly at the brickyard on Schweinle Road where they raised their four children, Linda, Karen, Jerry and Wendell, Jr.
With Karen’s help, Klara got a job at Sheldon ISD as a dishwasher working her way up to Main Cook. Retired from Sheldon ISD after thirty years of service. After retiring, mother enjoyed making quilts for all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
