Korey Naka Chatman Jr. was born on August 8, 1996, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the firstborn child of Korey Naka Chatman Sr. and Knekenge Trinise Robertson. Korey, as an infant, was loving. He was adored by everyone in the family. That’s what caused him to be loved by many and touch everyone's hearts at an early age.
At the age three, his father, Korey Sr., was called home to glory. Shortly after, he was raised by his father's parents, Norman & Debra Chatman. Korey was smart as a whip. Early in grade school, he was always on the A & B honor roll at Lake Forest Montessori in New Orleans, Louisiana— which he attended until he was displaced by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.
His grandparents moved him and their daughter to San Diego, California. Korey took delight and eagerness to the sunshine state. His grandparents and auntie took him to multiple cities, amusement parks, and beaches while residing in San Diego. Even with delay in schooling and dislocation due to a natural disaster, Korey still continued to make the honor roll in elementary. After finishing up that school year in 2006, his grandmother's job relocated her family to Martinsburg, West Virginia. Korey wasn’t happy about the move because he had grown to love this newfound city. He didn’t want to leave his auntie and uncle behind, but he had created bonds with other displaced families. He had adjusted and grown to love Martinsburg. Korey's grandparents traveled on weekends and took him on vacations throughout the East Coast during their residence in Martinsburg. Korey took such a liking to Martinsburg, that when his grandmother retired in December 2012 and decided to move to Houston, Texas to be closer to his immediate family, Korey stayed and moved in with a friend to continue attending high school where he played basketball.
The separation from Korey’s “Mimi” (grandmother) was short-lived. He moved to Houston in April 2013 to be with his grandparents and sister. His grandmother enrolled him into Hastings High School. Korey began to gain a love for music and he was passionate about pursuing this field. He spent numerous times in his cousin's in-home studio recording.
Throughout his late teens and early twenties, Korey gained plenty of personal relationships outside of his family. He was beloved by many and touched many hearts. His smile lit up the room and his charming personality attracted many. Korey was giving and would sacrifice himself for his family and friends. Recently, he met Arianna McKinney. They fell in love instantly and decided to say 'I do' in September of 2020.
On November 28, 2020, Korey Naka Chatman Jr. made his transition to his heavenly home. He joined his father, Korey Naka Chatman Sr., where he is finally at peace.
He leaves to cherish his wife, Arianna, his stepson; Jaxon McKinney, his mother; Knekenge Robertson, grandparents; Debra & Norman Chatman, Gwendolyn & Lemar Robertson III, his siblings; Normanique Chatman, Deja Williams Marlon, Jaheim, & Quayshon Robertson; aunties, uncles, a host of other relatives, and friends.
Be at peace and rest in God, we will love you always
