

LAURA JANE (LATTNER) HUSTON, 96, passed away on the 1st of August 2010. She was born on the 19th of July 1914 in Topeka, Kansas to Sadie and Ray Lattner. She grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from Monte Casino High School in 1932. She married the love of her life, Steve F. Huston on the 30th of September 1940. The newlyweds moved to Bismarck, North Dakota, the first of 19 moves made with Steve’s job at Exxon. Laura and Steve, who preceded her in death, provided a warm, caring and loving life for their four daughters. Laura was always happy to meet new friends as she moved around the country.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Kay Connell of El Dorado Kansas, and by her four daughters and their families: Mr. & Mrs. Jim Eschenheimer (Barbara Huston) of Lee’s Summit, MO, their children Kristin Eschenheimer of Independence, MO and Mr. & Mrs. Nick Eschenheimer and great grandsons Andrew and Luke of Tulsa, OK; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Sargent (Kathy Huston) of New York, NY, their children Mr. & Mrs. Will Sargent and great grandchildren Liam and Devyn of Malvern, PA, Ellen Sargent and Laura Sargent of Chicago, IL; Mr. and Mrs. Dick Humphreys (Jane Huston) of Houston , TX, their children Scott Humphreys of Austin, TX and Mr. & Mrs. Ryan Call of Houston, TX; and Mr. & Mrs. Bob Rhodes (Virginia Huston) of Horseshoe Bay, TX.
Though originally a native of Kansas and a graduate of Kansas University, Laura spent much of her life in Tulsa, Oklahoma giving unselfishly of her time and efforts to Monte Casino School, Christ the King Church, Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and the Junior League. After moving to Houston in 1968, she continued support of and affiliation with these organizations. She was a parishioner at Saint Cecilia’s Catholic Church, an active volunteer of The Charity Guild of Catholic Women and other numerous civic organizations. In 2005, she moved to The Buckingham where she enjoyed all of the social activities and made many new dear and lasting friends.
The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at The Plaza and Odyssey Hospice Health Care for their care as well as Laura’s loyal caregivers, Bonnie Lawhorn and team, who assisted her so well during the past year. Laura will be missed by her family and by many warm, loving friends, all of whom enriched her life.
The Mass of Christian Burial is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 9th of August, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc in Houston, where the Most Rev. Vincent M. Rizzotto, D.D., J.C.L. Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus, Archdioceses of Galveston-Houston, is to serve as celebrant.
Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent Community Center.
Private graveside services are to be held at a future date in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that donations be made in Laura’s memory to Odyssey Hospice, 2636 South Loop West, Suite 210, Houston, TX, 77054; or to a charitable organization of your choice.
