He was born in Houston on July 11th, 1934 to Ben and Mayvon Fraser. Larry attended St. Thomas High School, graduating in 1952 before studying English, Latin, Spanish and Philosophy at Assumption College in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. After college he enlisted in the US Air Force.
In 1956 he met the love of his life, Barbara. They were married on November the 29th, just months after they met. They were married for 68 years, an accomplishment rarely achieved. They enjoyed a lifelong love of travel, visiting places all over the world including Africa, Europe, Russia, Australia, South and North America, and Israel. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing around the world. Later in life he took an interest in ranching, running a small ranch near College Station for about 25 years.
Larry was the founder and president of Beltway Bank, and founder and chairman of Texas Capital Bancshares, with locations in Houston, Richmond and Katy. He was instrumental in changing the state laws to allow branch banking in Texas. After retiring from Texas Capital he continued on and improved several underperforming banks. His career in banking spanned over 50 years,mentoring dozens of rising stars in the banking industry along the way. He continued to remain active in business until his death. He was also active in Citizens against Lawsuit Abuse pushing for tort reform in Texas.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Ben and Mayvon, brothers Ron and Fr. Michael and granddaughters Sarah and Renee. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara, children Brian and Georgianna and grandchildren Ryan, Macyn, and Olivia, siblings Myrtis, Tom, John and Mary along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The Vigil is to be held March 6th from 5-8 pm at Forest Park Westheimer. The funeral mass is March 7th at 10:30 am at St. John Vianney Catholic Church followed by burial and reception at Forest Park Westheimer.
