

Leatrice Bernice Callaway age 94, of Trinity, TX. Passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 27, 2016 in Houston, TX. Leatrice was born April 10, 1921 in Fairfield, TX to William Pinkney Walker and Mary Belle Spears Walker. She was the 5th of 10 children. Leatrice received the Holy Ghost in 1988.
As a child, she would work in the fields picking cotton, pulling the heavy sacks and could out pick many. She loved raising her own food in her garden. she was an excellent cook. At family gatherings she would be asked “what did you bring?” She loved quilting, and canning especially her special hot salsa and pear butter. Many people would say, “To know Leatrice was to love her”. Almost every weekend, she would have 2 or 3 families at her house. Her home was the place where all gathered and she would do all the cooking. Her 3 children and 13grandchildren were precious to her as was her 32 great and 16 great-great grandchildren. You would find Leatrice working alongside her husband, Linza in whatever trade he chose at that time. She always found time for any activity her children were involved in, such as jumping on top of the counter in a concession stand to cheer the sons in football, or being an impromptu chaperon for a band trip. Many friends were brought into their home during visits from their children and they were always welcomed. Although she never went past the 5th grade, she taught many Godly values and common sense to her offspring's through hands on training.
Leatrice was predeceased in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Linza Callaway, Father: William Pinkney Walker, Mother: Mary Belle Walker, Brothers: William Charles Walker, Vernon Walker, Jake J. Walker, James E. Walker, W.P. Walker Jr.,and Franklin R. Walker, Sisters: Martha (Big Sister) Pace, and Francis Hogenhauer, Grandson: Sammy Lynn Callaway II, and Granddaughter: Jamie Andrews. She is survived by two sons: Stanley Ross Callaway and wife Carrol of Lumberton TX, and Sammy Lynn Callaway and wife Rienette of Houston TX, one daughter: Glenda and husband Mark D. Silence of Trinity TX, eleven grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 16 (5th generation) great-great grandchildren.
