Lela Annie Goodwin

Lela Annie Mattox Goodwin was born January 1, 1958, in Houston, Texas to Leroy Mattox, Sr. & Leola Mattox. Lela was born 5th of 7 children with her twin brother, Leonard Mattox. She was baptized at an early age and became a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor C. L. Jackson.

Growing up in Houston, Texas, Lela matriculated through the education system and attended Wheatley High School.

Lela worked at Ben Taub Hospital for 9 years. Later she moved on to teach at Grantham Middle School in Aldine Independent School District, retiring after 16 years of service.

Lela joined Faith and Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor L. Solomon and was a Sunday School teacher.

Lela was preceded in death by her father Leroy Mattox, Sr., brothers Paul and Andrew Mattox, and grandchild Jerrell Goodwin.

The Lord called, Lela answered and received her heavenly wings on February 6, 2022.

She leaves to cherish her memories her husband Joseph Goodwin, Sr.; children Jerry Goodwin (Diane), Renea Seymour (Reginald, Jr.), Charlene Goodwin, Joseph Goodwin, Jr., and Derrick Goodwin; grandchildren Charlene’ Robinson, Hunter Goodwin, Ryan Seymour, Caleb Robinson, Juliun Goodwin, Royce Seymour and Josey Goodwin; mother Leola Mattox; siblings Leroy Mattox, Jr., Charlotte Tate (George, Sr.), Leonard Mattox (Cheryl), and Gloria Mattox; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends

A visitation for Lela will be held Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Paradise Funeral Home, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. A funeral service will occur Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. A committal service will occur Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 3:45 PM to 4:00 PM at Paradise Cemetery North, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088.
