Lewis was born on the 12th of November 1942, in San Antonio, Texas, and soon moved to Austin, Texas, where he was raised by his parents, Martha Koch Pennock and Lewis Pennock. Lewis attended the University of Texas as an undergraduate, and later, the University of Texas School of Law where he served as an editor of the Law Review. After graduation he moved to Houston where he married and raised his family, and where he also practiced law for nearly 50 years, retiring several years before his passing. Lewis also served on the Board of Directors for AIM/Investco before retiring from that position after 30 years.
The son of a civil engineer, Lewis grew up with an interest in all things mechanical, and he maintained a strong interest in woodworking throughout his life. He also had a passion for geology, amassing a large collection of fossils and minerals, and he had already begun to share this passion with his eldest grandchild. He loved gardening and tending to exotic flowers. Most of all, he was a loving husband and father, forever devoted to his family.
Lewis is survived by his wife of 45 years Elizabeth Davidson Pennock, his daughter Courtney Elizabeth Pennock of Houston, his son and daughter-in-law Lewis Forsythe Pennock, Jr. and Fiona Harrison, and their children Daisy Constance Pennock and June Patience Pennock of Nashville, TN. He is also survived by his sister Martha Ann King of Austin, and two nieces and a nephew.
A memorial service is to be conducted at three o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 27th of October, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to join the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the American Heart Association, 10060 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, TX 77054; or to the charity of one’s choice.
