

Ann was born in Houston on the 14th of January 1925 to Albert Cravens Sneed and Electa Grace Galloway Sneed. Ann attended Austin High School where she played bagpipes in the Scottish Brigade. She received her bachelor’s degree from Southwestern University in 1945 where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, and went on to earn her Masters of Education from University Houston in 1947. Ann taught elementary school in the HISD school system and English to international students at the University of Houston Downtown.
Ann was a member of Chapelwood Methodist Church and attended the Kaleidoscope Sunday School class. She was a 50 year member of the Lady Washington Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution; she was also a member of the John Champion Chapter, National Society Colonial Dames Seventeenth Century; the Jefferson Davis Chapter #1637 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy; and Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Sorority. One of Ann’s greatest loves was gardening and through her membership in the Bouquets Garden Club was a Master Gardner and an International Flower Show Judge.
In addition to gardening and her other organizations, Ann enjoyed traveling, literature, square dancing and ice skating. She performed for a number of years on the Galleria Grannies Ice Skating Drill Team. Ann enjoyed being around people and staying active.
She is preceded in death by her husband, the late Fred Watt Jackson; brother, Rev. Robert Cravens Sneed; and her sister, Barbara Ann Sneed Merritt. She is survived by her three sons, Carl Fred Jackson, James Edward Jackson and his wife Lisa, and Paul Douglas Jackson; and her younger sister, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Sneed of Pearland. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Christine Jackson, Christopher Jackson and Julia Jackson; one great granddaughter Ainsley Vivian Pendray; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the Amazing Place, University Place Rehabilitation Unit and the Memorial Southwest Hospital Hospice Care.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock this afternoon until seven o’clock this evening, Thursday, the 31st of May, in the Parlor of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The interment is to be conducted at half-past one o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 1st of June, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Avenue in Houston, where the Rev. M. Eugene Vickrey is to officiate. A uniformed steward from Geo. H. Lewis & Sons is to be positioned at the cemetery’s entrance so as to guide guests to the burial site.
A memorial service is to follow at half-past three o’clock in the Sanctuary of Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay Street in Houston, where the Rev. Melissa Maher, Associate Pastor, the Rev. M. Eugene Vickrey and the Rev. Greg Funderberg are to officiate.
Afterwards, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Parlor.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Mrs. Jackson’s name be directed to the Amazing Place, 3735 Drexel Dr., Houston, TX 77027; or to the charity of one’s choice.
