Lois Meehan McCullar, a devoted wife and mother whose life revolved around her love of family and her love for the Lord, passed away peacefully on Thursday the 22nd of December 2022 at the age of 94. Born in Palestine, Texas in 1928, she was the eldest daughter of Thomas Edward Meehan and Vada Kelly Meehan. She graduated from Henrietta M. King HS in Kingsville, Texas and attended Texas A & I College (Texas A & M Kingsville), where she met and married her late husband Harold F. McCullar in 1948. They moved to Houston in 1953 and settled in the Oak Forest area, where they raised their 5 children. She was a charter member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, involved in many activities, including the Altar Society, Choir, Golden Youth, St. Vincent de Paul, Eucharistic Adoration, and the Annual Bazaar. She also volunteered at Memorial Hermann Greater Heights and at Manna Interfaith Thrift Store when she wasn't home baking pumpkin muffins, hosting her "Red Hat" group for lunch, or traveling with the "Ramblin Roses" from St. Rose of Lima Parish. She was generous with compliments, never forgot a birthday or anniversary and never neglected to say "Thank you" for anything received even after her dementia progressed. Her great knack for remembering dozens of friends and family's phone numbers always amazed us.
She is survived by two sisters: Lucille (and husband Charles) Cook of Whitehouse, Texas, and Claire (late husband Ron) Lauber of Birmingham, Alabama, as well as 5 children: Amy (husband Ira) Goldknopf of The Woodlands, Teresa (husband John) Kopycinski of Damon, Texas, Cathie (husband Joe) Asaro of Austin, Paul (wife Tammy) McCullar of Ingram, Texas, Jean ( husband Jack) Northey of Katy, Texas, as well as 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday December 30th at St Ambrose Catholic Church, 4213 Mangum Rd., beginning with a Rosary in the church at 9:30am with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00am celebrated by Father Hieu Nguyen. A reception at the parish hall will follow the mass and there will be an escorted procession to the Houston National Cemetery for the Rites of Committal at 2pm.
The family wishes to thank the excellent caregivers at Unlimited Care Cottage #1 in The Woodlands as well as the caring, attentive staff of Oasis Hospice for their supportive presence.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church Society of St Vincent de Paul, Covenant House or Saint Mary's Seminary.
