

Louis Brooks was born June 4, 1937 in Centerville, Mississippi to the late Felix and Lucinda Brooks. He grew up and was educated in Mississippi and was baptized at Beulah Land Church of God in Christ.
He relocated to New Orleans, La. in 1960. Louis was united in Holy Matrimony to Emma Jefferson Brooks in 1964. From that union, one daughter was born, Denita Brooks Bethely.
While in New Orleans he was a member of Marine Missionary Baptist Church in Jefferson, La. where he was ordained as a deacon on December 12, 1999. Deacon Brooks enjoyed attending Sunday School and Weekly Bible Study. However, in 2006, he and his wife relocated to Pearland, Texas. At the time of his death, he was a member of Silverlake Community Church where he served until his health failed. Although he was not able to attend Service, Bro. Brooks enjoyed watching Christian broadcasting in his home. He enjoyed talking and giving historical lessons to those who visited with him. He shared that he was given the name “Sonny” by his loving wife, Emma.
He retired from a career as a Longshoreman after 33 years of service. Louis enjoyed the outdoors: fishing and working in his yard.
His favorite song was “I’m still holding on”.
Louis (Sonny) Brooks went to be with the Lord on December 5, 2019 at his home in Pearland, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Emma Brooks; a daughter Denita Brooks Bethely (Adrian); two grandchildren, Arion Boston (Michael) and D’Ovante Carter; two great grandchildren, Calaya and Camdyn Boston; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
