Luisa was a bright spirit and had many talents which she generously shared. She was Treasurer of El Club Continental for 15 years and I miss her assistantance and friendship.

The loss of our dearly beloved and greatly admired Luisa, has been a very sad shock for all of us who knew her and loved her. Luisa was always a healthy person, filled with energy and vitality. She planned large projects and cultural events, such as reflected in many activities she created for the Institute of Hispanic Culture for many years.

When she accepted to take responsibility for an event, everyone knew it would unfold into a great success. Her character and direction, injected enthusiasm in the other members who participated. She knew just how to mold ideas in a way that enabled her to always attain grand, remarkable events. Later in her life, she gathered her creative energy and dedicated it to painting porcelain objects. Her excellent taste is displayed in each lovely, delicate piece she painted in that exquisite art form.

I met Luisa in an event hosted by the Institute of Hispanic Culture decades ago. She was quite young, very attractive, and walked with an air of elegance and distinction, attributes she displayed all her life. We became immediate friends and our friendship led to a deep bond between our two families, which soon formed one extended family. I will always remember the happy moments we all shared together, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. I will remember too, the moments that are painful to remember and that you were always there by my side. I will always remember you with great affection, my friend Luisa and I will never forget you. I don't know where to start; I am still in shock. We just spoke a few days ago and she was fine, healthy  and full of life. I have known Luisa for almost 30 years. We met at the Institute of Hispanic Culture of Houston (IHC) where we both were volunteers working together for a common good; the dissemination of the Hispanic Culture through cultural presentations and giving scholarships to well deserving students. Luisa was a natural leader who never stopped working to achieve her goals. She was a major fundraiser for the IHC.  Luisa organized several Noche de las Americas Gala, was President of the IHC, served on the Board of Directors, in the Cultural Committee, By-Laws Committee, Membership Committee, and Scholarship Committee, for many years. For me it was a delight to work with her in all those committees, the Board of Directors and to count with her support during my presidency of the IHC because we held to our highest standards without ever giving in to what we considered inadequate. She always held her ground, her ideals and her goals; to benefit the students and to disseminate the Hispanic culture at it's best, she was a driving force and the light of the IHC. One of her highest achievements at the IHC was when she was instrumental in bringing Placido Domingo as the honored guest to the IHC gala.  Luisa was a fine lady but most of all she was my dearest friend. We shared many happy moments in all our outings in Houston. For me it was a great joy to have her in my life and I already miss her dearly. I will never forget her laughter, her love and dedication to her family and her true friendship. It is not a goodbye but until we meet again in the home of our eternal father.

I was so lucky to know  “Lita” and see the wonderful bond she shared with her granddaughter Alessandra.  They were like a pair of happy friends who could read one anothers’ thoughts, even though  Alessandra is only 2 years old.  They had special fun the two of them shared, but it brought joy to all who witnessed it. So many people inside and outside the family will miss this amazing woman. 

I had the privilege to know Luisa for almost 50 years. She was such a lady. I will miss her dearly. Knus Inger

There is a great emptiness left by Luisa’s passing.  Words are never adequate in moments like these.  I feel so lucky that I got to know her.  I will always remember the joyous memories that I am privileged to have in knowing Luisa.  

I remembered how nervous I was the first time I met her for dinner at Houston restaurant, she drove herself and did not want us to pick her up.  But, it did not take us long to get that emotional bond and love.  I lost my mother when I was only ten years old and I can feel the mother’s wisdom and great comfort within her. I have the best memories of going to lunches and dinners with Luisa on Sunday, as she always had her hair and nails done on Friday.  

Early March, she planned to go to Boston and asked me to taking care of her orchids and then she changed her mind due to the Corona-virus pandemic.  They were beautifully bloomed until Friday April 3, all of their flowers were wilted with sadness…..

I’m going to miss her fun-loving spirit so… so … much.  I felt her compassion and embrace her.  I am missing Luisa along with all of you.  What an amazing woman and what a remarkable life!
