Madie Jean Russell

Madie Jean Russell, known to family and friends as "Mama Jean", aged 89, quietly passed away November 30, 2020 in Houston, TX. Madie Jean was born to J. Markham and Lora Dell Martin on August 22, 1931 in Mansfield, LA. At a very early age, she gave her life to Christ and loved the Lord with all her heart.

Madie Jean graduated from DeSoto High School in 1950 at the top of her class. Her caring and kind personality along with her outstanding work ethic made her valuable to many employers. She worked as a seamstress at Rocket Cleaners, Benson & Newberry Clothing, Ralph Lauren, among other clothing retailers until she retired. Her children and grandchildren were blessed by her creative hands when she sewed for each of them.

She married Travis Russell Sr. and lived for a short time in Buffalo, NY before permanently relocating to Houston, TX. Madie Jean was blessed with four beautiful children, Jacqueline Russell, Travis Russell Jr., Cheryl Russell Marves, and Deborah Russell Savoy. Her family was very near and dear to her.

She is survived by 3 children, Jacqueline, Travis Jr. (Debra), and Deborah "Debbie" (Alfred Jr.). 4 grandchildren (Nichole, April, Tracy, and Chernet), 6 great-grandchildren (Devin, Joseph, Chase, Austin, Raina, and Nova). Also, 4 special little loved ones that she adored (Harmony, Briseis, Phoenix, & Quincey) and a host of relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Cheryl Ann.
