Mai was a caring, loving and generous woman. She was a go-to person for her families and friends at time of need. She was very independent and did not want to impose on anyone even her children; her famous words were “No news is good news”. Families were most important to her but she enjoyed and embraced life as well. She loved traveling and playing mahjong with her friends.
Mai passed away at the age of 79 on June 5, 2021. She was born on March 17, 1942 in Hanoi to Mr. and Mrs. Tuong Nguyen. She was the youngest child and the only daughter, and therefore she was adored by her parents and her older brothers. In 1954, her family escaped to South Vietnam where she met and fell in love with Phung Tran. They got married on April 25, 1966 in Saigon and had 2 sons, Manh and Lam Tran. A week before the fall of South Vietnam to the North on April 30, 1975, her family immigrated to the States and settled in St. Louis, MO. Her last home was in Houston.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She took care of her husband many years prior to his passing in 2011 as he was not in good health. She babysat her grandchildren of one boy, 1 set of fraternal twins and 1 set of identical twins. She was proud of her accomplished sons, and her intelligent and beautiful grandchildren.
She loved traveling and had been to many countries in Asia and Europe for fun and for visits to her extended families. She enjoyed going on cruises with her friends where they would take over an entire party room to play mahjong. She liked to go to casinos for gambling and for watching the Vietnamese shows.
Mai is survived by her brother Doanh Nguyen, her son Manh Tran and his wife Min Lee Tran, her son Lam Tran and his wife Agnes Son, and her grandchildren Alex, Lucas, Abigail, Leo and Nicholas.
