Marguerite Frances Hays

Marguerite Frances Baker Hays, 97, died September 8, 2022, in Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents William D. Baker and Alpha Baker; her husband of 53 years, Clyde C. Hays; Jr.; and her son William Baker Hays. She is survived by her brother William D. Baker, Jr. and wife Martha; daughter Gay Lynn Bonner and husband Dan; son Clyde C. Hays, III and wife Katy; son Howard Hays and wife Beverly; and grandchildren, Danny Bonner (Stephanie), Steven Bonner, Laura Martinez (Nick), Sarah Hart (Jake), Michael Hays (Carlie); and great grandchildren Knox, Carson and Peyton, and two more on the way. Marguerite was born in Waco, Texas on January 23rd, 1925, and graduated from Baylor University with a degree in Business Administration. She taught for more than 25 years to ensure that her four children would graduate from college, which they did. She retired from Meadowood Elementary School in Spring Branch ISD, after devoting herself to her students in several districts in Texas. She incorporated knowledge of many things outside of her classroom. She was known to stop class to point to a hummingbird outside the window. She also taught her students the same good manners she instilled in her own children. Marguerite and Clyde were active members of Fair Haven United Methodist Church. She served with the United Methodist Women, as chair of the prayer chain, and in the Food Pantry. Marguerite loved gardening, bridge and lunches with her friends, and her weekly Bible Study. Funeral Services will be held at the Chapel of Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2022, with Reverend Bob Luton officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Attendees of the services are invited to join the family at a reception at the family home after the burial.
