Maria Lucila De Leon age 87 of Houston, Texas passed away on June 8, 2024. She was born in General Teran, Nuevo Leon Mexico on February 17, 1937 to parents Rafael Elizondo and Tita Flores.
She met the love of her life Manuel De Leon in Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas. They were married on February 1, 1959. Lucila was a loving, and dedicated wife and mother. She had a passion for cooking, baking, grilling for her family especially during the holidays. This talent was passed on to her daughters, and grandkids. While her kids grew, she returned to her first talent inherited from her mother a passion of sewing.
While she sewed for her family, her business also included cheerleading uniforms for Hambrick Middle School, employee vests for Fiesta Mart, bridesmaids, prom, and wedding dresses. As an added benefit of her sewing, her circle of friends grew to later become dear friends. During the holidays, her friends/family would receive handmade gifts of quilted potholders, and assorted kitchen towels. She also graced her granddaughters with assorted hair bows and Halloween Costumes, to name few. Her passion for gardening grew to include roses, ferns, aloe vera and fruit trees to name a few. During the fall months, she would sell plants to neighbor/friends to avoid freezing temperatures damaging them.
It was rare to not hear music playing in the background when visiting. Music was in her blood, her enthusiasm for dancing was well known among family, and friends.
As life progressed, the family grew to 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous fur grandbabies. Life took a turn when mom became wheelchair bound, we all catered to her every whim, as we rotated her, our grandchildren were able to spoil her with affection playing loteria, coloring in her intricate coloring books gifted to her. Our grandchildren / great grandchildren showered her with hugs, kisses, and tug on her hair from Rene III. In addition to her family are the caregivers who tirelessly cared for her. Jessica, Sandra, Beatrice.
During the last 3 weeks of hospitalization, she was continuously surrounded by her loved ones until the end. You will be dearly missed as we continue your legacy. Rest in Peace Madre.
