Maria “Quela” Montemayor passed away on September 10, 2025, after a courageous three-year battle with kidney cancer. Born on March 26, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois, Maria was the beloved daughter of Abel and Olivia Treviño. She spent part of her youth studying in Linares, Nuevo León, before marrying the love of her life, Pedro Montemayor, in 1974 in Chicago, Illinois. As newlyweds, they moved to Houston, where they built their life together and raised their family.
Maria dedicated 35 years of service to Marriott, where she worked her way up to Director and built lasting friendships throughout her career. After retirement, her passion for travel took her across the globe—never passing up the chance for a cruise. When she wasn’t traveling or enjoying trips to the casino, Maria’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her cherished grandchildren.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Pedro Montemayor; her daughter Kristy Montemayor and husband Robert Paredes; her son Abel Montemayor and wife Deanna Alcala-Montemayor; and her treasured grandchildren Reme Aiden Paredes, Cataleya Ava Paredes, and Audrey Montemayor. She is also survived by her brothers Gilberto Treviño and Eduardo Treviño.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Abel and Olivia Treviño, and her brothers Abel Treviño and Hector Treviño.
Maria will be remembered for her strength, adventurous spirit, and the love she poured into her family and friends. Her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched.
