

Marjorie Johnson Lowe began her eternal rest on 20th May 2025. She was born in Dewey, Washington County, Oklahoma on 11th, January 1931 on her father's Cherokee allotment, the daughter of William Harvey Paul and Marjorie Ethel Atwater Johnson and a direct descendant of Nelson F Carr, early pioneer of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She was educated in Dewey, OK Public Schools and graduated in 1949.
Growing up on her father’s farm, she learned to ride and worked pushing cattle with her two brothers. She excelled in horseback riding and did barrel racing in high school.
She attended Oklahoma A&M University and graduated in Elementary Education in 1952. She began her teaching career with her Aunt Lelia Walker in Great Bend, Ks. where she met and married James S Lowe on May 23, 1954. Her marriage lasted 55 years until her husband’s death in 2009. During her 40-year teaching career, she enjoyed teaching third graders in many places throughout the country as her husband worked for Shell Oil Company. Later in life she would also teach English as a second language to new immigrants in Houston Tx.
In her early thirties her interest in family genealogy began and she would later have a side business as a professional genealogist concentrating on the Five Civilized Tribes in Oklahoma with an emphasis on the Cherokee Nation. As a small child her mother told her she was a Cherokee just like her father.
She was a member of several organizations including Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of 1812, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, First Families of Texas, First Families of Oklahoma, and First Families of Tennessee. She was a patron of the Junior League in Houston, Tx.
She was a proud Mother and Grandmother leaving son, James S Lowe II and a daughter, Stephanie Lowe Herzfeld and husband David, three grandchildren, Hunter Stafford, Cameron Wood Herzfeld of Houston and Brynne Elizabeth Herzfeld of Austin, Tx. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and three brothers. Marjorie was a loving and faithful wife and mother providing a foundation during the many moves throughout the country. For that we will be ever grateful to the Lord for bringing her into our lives.
A Visitation for Marjorie will be held Thursday, May 29, 2025 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, Tx 77077. A funeral service will occur Thursday, May 29, 2025 from 2:00pm to 2:45pm, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, Tx 77077. A reception will occur Thursday, May 29, 2025 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, Tx 77077.
