Mark Ahn

Mark Ahn, a beloved husband, friend, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, at the age few days before his 90th birthday.

Mr. Ahn was born as Man Ri Ku Ahn in Yecheon-Gun, South Korea, on or about April 15, 1936. He was born 31st generation of the Ahn family between Mr. Hyun Ahn during the height of the Japanese occupation of Korea. He was fiercely loyal to his work, family and unwavering kindness to all. He graduated from Kunkook University with a Political Science degree and worked in real estate before coming to the United States on November 21, 1975, at the age of 39 through the sponsorship of his older sister, Josey Clark, and her late husband Bert Clark.

During his life, he has personally experienced the bone-chilling Japanese occupation, joyful liberation, and the pain of Korea at war in 1950. He has also seen a man landing on the Moon, the computer revolution, and South Korea becoming the 10th largest power in the world. He was a member of what we call “the Greatest Generation.” He was also a proud American who worked hard to provide for his family, and despite his late arrival in the United States and limited command of the English language, he was determined not to rely on his children for his later life. Mr. Ahn has never allowed his children to buy him even one lunch or dinner until the day of his passing. He has also left sources of income for his wife to live out her life with dignity.

Once, a relative asked him: “Despite your late arrival to U.S., you managed to raise good children. How did you do that?” His response was, “I never told my children to become anything. I only told them to work hard and become an important person.” When I was raising my own children, I followed his lead and only told them to become important people.

He is survived by his wife, Yumija Ahn, and their three children: Song, Kristopher Kwon, and Myoungsook, who will forever cherish the memories of his love for his family. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Thomas Heejae, Stephanie Heekyung, Allen Heesung, Laura Heejin, and Hillary Heeri and Imad. He is further survived by three great-grandchildren: Isabelle Sungmi, Amelia Sungeun, and Schroeder.

A service to honor Mark’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Homes and Cemetery, located at 13001 Katy Freeway. Please do not send any donations. The family requests that a short letter be given to his surviving family regarding what you appreciated or remembered about Mr. Mark Ahn.
