

Martha Lee Tiner Pitzer, 64, was born on December 26, 1949 in Lufkin, TX, and went to be with our Lord and Savior on January 11, 2014 in Houston, TX. She was the daughter of William Hoyt Tiner and Lovie Marie Maness. Martha was raised in Groveton, TX, graduated from Groveton High School in May 1968. She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis when she was 26 years old. Martha did not let that diagnosis slow her down. She stayed active with the MS Society as a volunteer to talk to people newly diagnosed with MS. Martha was a fundraiser for the MS150 every year, helping her favorite Dr. George Hutton to get into the 300 club of riders.
Martha worked as an Executive Secretary at United Bank until her disease progressed and she could no longer work. She loved to travel with her husband Mike, making several memorable trips, including numerous cruises. Martha took an active interest in her gated community of Old Bridge Lake. She and her Sheltie Marcie, could be seen on her scooter visiting her neighbors in the community where she made numerous friends who will miss her dearly.
Special thanks go to all the doctors and nurses who have taken care of Martha over the years so she could have a full life and to her caregivers who cared for her in her home for the past couple of years while she was unable to get out.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Otto L. Skidmore; and her great niece, Ashton Caneille Glover. She is survived by her loving husband, Michael G. Pitzer; sons, Michael S. Pitzer, Kevin Pitzer and wife Tami, Richard Pitzer, Anthony A. Pitzer and wife Amy; her grandchildren, Scott, Leah, Ashton, Trinity and Courtney; her sisters, Melba Mayfield and husband William, Jean Johnson and husband Lloyd, Gladys Mayes and husband Larry, Margaret Oliver and husband Larry, Bessie Goodin and husband Donnie; her brother, Otto A. Skidmore and wife Nell; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Michael S. Pitzer, Kevin Pitzer, Anthony Pitzer, Brandon Smith, David Trero and Ken Hensley.
