Marvin was born in De Kalb, Missouri on February 18, 1938, to parents Miles Reese and Beatrice "Bea" McCoy. He was raised there, attending K-12th grade in De Kalb, where he participated in baseball and basketball. He was the oldest brother to five younger siblings: Kenneth, Leon, Beverly, Bonnie, and Bob. Marvin graduated from De Kalb High in 1956 and received a Bachelor of Science in Teaching from the University of Central Missouri.
He met his beloved wife, Janis Nora Pierce, in El Paso, Texas, and they were married on November 17, 1967. Marvin started out work as a physical trainer, but soon became a driving instructor and P.E. teacher with Ysleta ISD in El Paso, where he worked for twelve years. Marvin moved his family to Houston in 1979, where he started work at Region 19 as a state driver education leader. He moved on to Houston Light & Power Co. as a safety and driver training coordinator, where he worked for ten years, and later finished his career at Houston Community College as a truck driver instructor—his favorite time in his career.
Marvin was a long-time member of Forest Cove Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher and active committee member. He was asked to start a satellite church in Atascocita, which became the First Baptist Church of Atascocita, where he was a deacon, church leader, and Sunday school teacher for many years. Later, Marvin and Janis moved to Conroe to be close to some of their grandchildren, and they joined Mims Baptist Church. Marvin quickly became involved as an usher, yokefellow, new believer counselor, and a member of many committees.
He always had a deep passion for the church, Bible study, and helping new believers, but Marvin's family was his heart and soul. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 57 years and a devoted father to his three sons, but he considered his most important role to be as Grampy to his five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Marvin was preceded in death by his father, Miles Reese; mother, Beatrice Reese; brothers, Kenneth Reese and Leon Reese; sister, Bonnie Reese Youngberg; nephews, Tony Reese, Cory Reese, and Kris Youngberg; niece, Bobbie Jo Reese; parents-in-law, Joe & Tempest Pierce; and siblings-in-law, Lionel Pierce and Kenney & Joan Pierce.
He is survived by his wife, Janis Reese; sons, Ron Reese & wife Leslie, Mike Reese & wife Regina, and Scott Reese; grandchildren, Trevor Reese & wife Cara, Amber Reese, Emily Reese, Brandon Reese, and Christopher Reese; great-grandchild, Teagan Reese; sister, Beverly Reese; brother, Bob Reese & wife Cathi; siblings-in-law, Howard Youngberg and Gloria Odom; and nephews and nieces, Rebecca, Billy, Cindy, Cari-Bea, Amber, Trisha, Nick, Jerry, Brent, JP, Karol, Kenney Joe, Karla, Vicky, and Billy P.
