

Mary Effie Calintine Broussard passed away quietly on Tuesday, May 14, 2013. She was the third of five children born in Mermentau, Louisiana to Joseph Julian and Espazie LeBlanc Calintine. Her passion was her involvement in the Catholic Church. She served many years with the Catholic Daughters of America, founded the Altar Society for St. Leo the Great Catholic parish, and served on the Diocesan Council and the North East Deanery of the Houston, Galveston Diocese. Her dedication to service included fostering over 100 children, driving patients to and from MD Anderson Cancer Center for treatments and appointments, driving a bus for the special needs children of Aldine ISD for 10 years, and serving with her husband, Dominique, to tend to their church by caring for the grounds, cleaning the church, and washing the linens and vestments for the priests. Effie was an avid artist, enjoying oil painting and gardening. She made a hobby of searching in magazines and at garage sales for pictures for her to use to create an oil painting. Effie is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Espazie Calintine, her beloved husband of 34 years, Dominique Broussard, siblings, Frank Calintine, Olive Broussard, Mable Raney, Lezia Trumps, and Rose LeBlanc, and daughter, Margaret Broussard. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, daughters, Mary Jean Lege (Winnie, Texas) and Diana Hebert (Bedford, Iowa), three grandchildren, Rhonda Benton (Bobby) (Winnie, Texas), Rodney Lege (Corpus Christi, Texas), and Theresa Hiles (Bedford, Iowa), and six great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the staff of The Arboretum of Winnie and the staff of Odyssey Hospice for their care and support during this difficult time. The family will be receiving friends at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Frwy, Houston, TX 77039 (at Lauder Road) on Thursday, May 16, 2013 from 6PM-8PM, with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7PM that same evening. Visitation will continue on Friday, May 17, 2013 from 9:30AM until Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00 at St. Louis Catholic Church, 315 W. Buccaneer Drive, Winnie, Texas. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Winnie, Texas.
