Mary Helen Gates

Mary Helen Gates, 82, of Houston, TX, passed away November 27, 2024. She was born in Berwick, Louisiana on July 3, 1942. She was married to Edward Windell Gates on January 6, 1962. Mary Helen dedicated her life taking care of her family.

She was survived by her children, David Gates, Troy Gates, and Terry Gates. Her grandchildren, Jessica Gates Saad, Samantha Gates Valencia, Samantha Ybarra, Abigail Gates, James Gates, Christopher Luna, Alberto Luna, and Brenda Luna. She is also survived by her Siblings, Gerald Touchet, Mable Silva Touchet, and Ernest Touchet.

A celebration of life for Mary will be held Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038, followed by a reception from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

All though our hearts are broken,

We remember the promise God has spoken,

To resurrect the those taken by death.

To once again give them breath.

She still lives in Jehovah's eyes.

What I love & appreciate about mom the most is that she loved Jehovah God & Jesus Christ, and she loved her family & friends. She always tried to be there to help any one of us in anyway that she could, especially her immediate family. She would try to help even when she knew that it was not necessary. Sometimes, she was so persistent in that way, or worry about her kids so much, that it would irritate us in a small way. However, it was out of heartfelt concern because she loved each one of us as much as any mom normally would love their kids, maybe even more. Looking back I appreciate it with all of my heart. She was not perfect, but she was a beautiful lady, inside & out. I look forward to seeing her again one day on a paradise earth, standing right beside my dad & brother, Glenn. - Troy Gates
