After graduating from Bay City High School, she completed her education at Sam Houston State University and began her first career as a music and social studies teacher. When she retired from Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, she found an unexpected second career driving tour buses for cruises in Alaska. She was also a dedicated member of the Diamond Club Committee of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.
Mary is survived by her son, John David McElroy, his wife, Alisa, and her two granddaughters, Camille Pierson and Donna McElroy. She also leaves behind many other family members and the students and friends that were as good as family. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Dorothy Tibbetts, her brother Duke Tibbetts, and her sister, Lorraine Tibbets Fabrygel.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, April 9 at 4:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home located at 9149 Highway 6 North, Houston, TX 77095.
