Mary Emma McWilliams was born on April 26, 1928. She born on the family's west Texas ranch to Ellery and Myrtle McWilliams. Mary grew up with her older brother James and younger brother Roy. Her life was enriched years later with the addition of her younger sisters Helen and Elaine.
After graduating from Winters High School, Mary enrolled in San Angelo College. She excelled at her math courses, but found love before she was able to complete her degree.
Frank "Mutt" McIntosh was a college boy, who earned money as a shoe salesman at the Cox Rushing Department store. He worked hard to impress the beautiful young woman who entered the store. He had her try on pair after pair to keep her in the store. Although he was unsuccessful in selling the pretty woman a pair of shoes, he was successful in getting a date. On March 4, 1947 they eloped.
The couple settled in San Angelo where Mary worked at the local county tax office and Frank worked for the railroad. With less than a year of marriage under their belt, they welcomed their beautiful baby girl, Marilyn Lee into the world. After 13 years of service at the railroad, Frank decided to take a new direction with his career. He entered into a business deal with two friends from junior high. The McIntosh family, along with Frank's school buddies and their families moved to Houston in 1961 to open their own franchise of Continental Water Conditioning. Mary managed the books for the new company for many years.
Mary was a devoted stay at home mother during Marilyn's later childhood years. She sewed clothes for Marilyn, supported her in her studies and volunteered many hours supporting Marilyn on the Spring Woods drill team. Marilyn wed Rick Darling in 1969. Rick often describes Mary as the "best mother-in-law in the world."
Mary spent time serving on various church committees at Fairhaven United Methodist Church in Houston. Once they became empty-nesters, Frank and Mary traveled the world with a group from their church. These two Texans from little old San Angelo traveled all over Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Russia, and to Israel on a Holy Land trip to name a few. They didn't limit their travels just to foreign lands, but did extensive sightseeing around the U.S. as well.
Mary's life legacy has been to maintain a close relationship with her family and friends. "Meme and Raddy" as they were affectionately known by their grandchildren, spent numerous hours cheering for and supporting John and Jennifer at their various school activities, attending family dinners, spending long weekends at the farmhouse, going to the square in Grandbury, and just being together. They took their family on a multitude of trips including Disneyland, Disney World, New York, as well as Scotland, England and France. Their love of travel was passed down to their daughter and grandchildren. Meme was thrilled to see the family expand when John married Tracy in 2013 at the farmhouse.
The delight brought into her live by her four great grandchildren was immeasurable. Riley, Colton, Ella and Gavin have enjoyed spending quality time with Meme and Raddy cooking, reading, coloring, play board games, and traveling. The children were always cared for and safe under the loving and watchful eye of Meme.
To be closer to their family, Mary and Frank moved to Katy, Texas in 2007. They served on the building committee at St. Peter's United Methodist Church and worked full time on spoiling the four great grandchildren with their love and devotion.
Mary was extremely proud of her extended family. She always enjoyed hearing from them. The day to day activities the family shared with her gave her a wonderful sense of feeling connected to each of her siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She had a special place in her heart for all of her loved ones.
