

Mary Ann Busch Svec was born into the loving arms of Anna Mae Hamusek Busch & Elmer John Busch on September 27, 1942 in Houston Texas. Mary Ann was baptized on April 25, 1943 at the Evangelical Czech Brethren Church in Houston TX. Mary Ann grew up in the Aldine area as the oldest of 5 siblings. Her younger 4 siblings Martha Gene, Nancy Juliette, John Amos and Linda Olga. They all grew up in a modest loving home at 1310 Aldine Meadows Rd. Houston, Texas. Her father Elmer built this as their family home.
Mary shared a bed with her sister Martha is the cozy 2 bedroom family home, which made them very close. Her siblings looked up to and admired Mary as she taught them many life lessons like stacking hay, feeding and milking the cow, and other household chores. Growing up Mary Ann participated and competed in Sokol Slets.
Mary Ann and her siblings walked to school as the Primary school was just down the street. She graduated from Aldine High School on June 2, 1961. She then went to Nursing school and graduated from The Hermann Hospital School of Practical Nursing August 24, 1962 as an LVN.
Mary Ann met the love of her life and married Charles William Svec on June 4, 1965. They started their family soon after. They had 4 children John William Svec, Elizabeth Tracey Svec Burris, Jennifer Claudine Svec Plant, and Cheryl Antoinette Svec Ray. Mary Ann and Charles raised their children in the home they purchased in Sugarland June 1972. She sacrificed over the years by working nights to be home during the day to take care of her children. Neighborhood children would come to Mary Ann seeking her advice when they couldn’t ask their own parents.
Mary Ann had a successful nursing career for 30+ years working in the hospital nursery. With her love for kids, she also went to work for Fort Bend Independent School District driving a bus for 20+ years.
Mary Ann loved many things with a few being Bluebonnets, Elvis, Hallmark movies, Poppyseed Fried Oysters, Onion rings and most of all She loved her family. Every time someone would ask her how she was doing, she would answer “mean as ever”, which everyone knew that “mean” was the last thing that Mary Ann was. Mary always can be remembered wearing her red lip or as she would call it her war paint on her beautiful smiling face.
Mary Ann Busch Svec peacefully passed on July 15, 2025 at 1:30 in the morning, surrounded by her family watching a Christmas in July Hallmark movie. Preceded in death by her loving Husband of 38 years Charles William Svec. Survived by her Son John William Svec and wife Lisa. Three Daughters - Elizabeth Tracey Burris Svec and husband Timothy; Jennifer Claudine Svec Plant and Husband Stephen; Cheryl Antoinette Svec Ray and husband Corey. Grandsons: Christopher, Joshua and wife Brittney and Jeremy Burris, Nathaniel Plant. Granddaughter Cooper Ray and Great-daughter Kimberlee Burris.
There was a single bluebonnet blooming by Mary Ann’s mailbox in this hot middle of July representing not only the resilience of this flower but the resilience of Mary Ann’s spirit and love.
