Matthew Bishop Gray, beloved son of Lauren Vestewig and Robert Toms Gray IV, died suddenly in Dallas on May 28, 2016. Matthew was born in Houston on February 11, 2015, and was a child of light and joy. He brought great happiness to those around him and filled our home with love every day. He delighted in people, animals, music, swimming, and climbing. He loved to play with his brother and spend time with his family. His curly hair, squeals of laughter, record-setting one-armed speed crawl, fearless spirit, good nature, and warm snuggles were unique. A precious angel, he left the world too soon.
Matthew is survived by his parents; brother, Rowan Toms Gray; grandparents, Ellen Durckel and Robert Philip Vestewig, June Gray and Robert Blair Stobaugh all of Houston; aunt, Mary Hayden Vestewig of Dallas; uncle and aunt, Dr. Geoffrey Milton and Eleanor Reese Gray of Charleston, South Carolina; cousins, Whitney Kenyon and Margaret Milton Gray of Charleston and many other beloved family members.
He is pre-deceased by his grandmother Sally Bishop Vestewig and his grandfather Robert Toms Gray III.
A memorial service honoring Matthew will be held at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 3rd of June, at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, in Houston, where the Rev. Martin J. Bastian, Vice-Rector, is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to join the family for a reception in Bagby Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Matthew may be directed to Bo’s Place, 10050 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, Texas 77054 (http://www.bosplace.org/donations) for a special project in his honor.
