Born March 6, 1950 to the union of Ellarine and Thurman Jenkins. She was raised by her mom, Ellarine, and Lorand Small. Mattie was second to the youngest of 8 children.
In 1968, Mattie graduated from Wyandotte High School. After graduating, she pursued a career in the financial industry until retirement.
Mattie was a caring and loving person. She took great joy in helping others in need.
She was predeceased by her parents, son (Galon Lawrence), 5 sisters (Clarice Angelo, Herrice Smith, Imogene Fields, Dorothy Fain, and Earline Jenkins) and 2 brothers (Charles Durham Sr. & Herman Durham). Mattie is survived by her 2 sons (Kenneth Jenkins and Gary Lawrence, Jr), 4 grandchildren (Nathaya Carrington, Tyree Lawrence, Julian Butler, and Najee Lawrence), 14 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
