Mauricio Saldana, Jr. was born in Matamoros, Mexico on February 22, 1964 to Mauricio Sr. and Maria Saldana. He grew up in the Port of Houston neighborhood in the Fifth Ward area. He graduated from Furr High School and earned an Associates of Applied Science degree at ITT Tech. Mauricio was employed by AT&T for 25 years as a Cable Splicer and retired in 2020.
He loved to race his Vette with anyone who challenged him. He enjoyed inviting family and friends for BBQ to watch football games or pay-per-view boxing. Everyone knew he would have both on any given weekend. He made the best fajitas and snacked on fresh tomatoes, green chili with lemon/salt and tortilla chips. Mauricio had a lifestyle that included working hard and going to the gym on weekdays, lifting weights mostly. If he wasn’t working then he enjoyed spending time polishing his car, grooming his yard or watching games or boxing on TV with his friends.
Heaven gained an Angel who loved his family deeply and whole heartedly. We will miss him and look forward to seeing him in Heaven. Until then…we will love you through watching football games, boxing and every time we see a black corvette, we will smile and blow a kiss towards heaven to you!
He is survived by his loving wife and childhood sweetheart, Cynthia Cortes Saldana, Daughter- Maurissa A. Saldana; Sons-Brandon Pena, Jacob Pena and Matthew Pena, 6 Grand-children- Vincent, Jaiden, Paul, Mia, Giovanni and Liam; Father and Mother- Mauricio Sr. and Maria Saldana; Sisters: Josie Garcia, Nora Garcia, Sylvia Barrientos, Juanita Cabrerra, many nieces and nephews and extended family members.
