

Mauro Jamero Macalos, 85, of Missouri City, Texas passed away peacefully on September 6, 2024. He was born in Garcia-Hernandez, Bohol, Philippines to Benito Macalos and Maria Jamero Macalos. Mauro studied at the University of the East in Manila, Philippines, and earned his degree in Business Administration. He married the love of his life, Remedios “Remy” Camba Macalos in 1970, and they immigrated to the United States in 1971. They lived in New York City, New York until they moved to Houston, Texas in 1977.
Mauro worked in accounting and bookkeeping for several companies, including Thomas Cook & Sons Bankers, Ltd., Norca Corporation, Borgans Publishing Company, Strachan Shipping Company, Universal Weather & Aviation, and Ports America, Inc. Mauro and Remy were members of several Filipino organizations in the Houston community. Mauro served on the Board of Directors for San Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila Community Center in Sugar Land, Texas for several years. He was also a faithful parishioner of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Houston.
Mauro and Remy enjoyed hosting many gatherings with family and friends at their home, traveling and cruising around the world together and with their "kumpares and kumares," and going on pilgrimages, finally making their long-awaited trip to the Holy Land in 2019. Mauro also enjoyed filming and making memories with his movie camera and camcorder, telling jokes and stories, singing and karaokeing, tending to his yard and its large fruit trees, cooking his highly sought-after chicken adobo and biko dessert, cheering on Houston sports teams, and ballroom dancing with his favorite dance partner, Remy. As a man of great faith with a kind and generous heart and a sincere dedication to his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family and friends, Mauro will be greatly missed.
Mauro is preceded in death by Remy, his loving wife of 53 years, his parents, sister Gleceria Macalos, and brother Vicente Macalos.
He is survived by his daughters Maureen Powers (husband Sean) and Marilyn Mueller (husband Randy), son Raymond “R.J.” Macalos (wife Anna), sisters Bebiana Salang and Julita Ayano, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is beloved “Lolo” (grandfather) to James and Michael Powers, Kateri, Lilly, and Robert Mueller, and Christopher “C.J.” and Joelle “Jojo” Macalos.
Visitation will be at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home in Houston, Texas on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Vigil Service and Rosary will begin at 5:30 PM.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Houston, Texas on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 10:30 AM followed by Rite of Committal at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
