Maxine Hileman Bennett, 99, of Houston, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025. Maxine, affectionately known as Max or Grandma Max, was born in Ada, Oklahoma on January 6, 1926. Max married the love of her life and childhood sweetheart, Robert Eugene Bennett, at the Naval Air Station (NASP) located outside Pensacola, Florida. She was a loving partner who stood by his side while he was serving in the Navy as a Naval Aviator. When Max wasn’t preparing delicious meals, she was supporting Gene in his role as president of two large oil companies and raising children until his passing in 2002 after 58 years of marriage. In the 70’s and early 80’s, Gene and Max spent many years at their property, Echo Valley Ranch, in Leakey, Tx. After Gene retired in the mid 1980’s, Max and Gene immensely enjoyed going to LaGrange, planting a pecan grove, and leading a simpler life. For many years after Gene’s passing, Max would meet with the Kroger Senior Group and enjoyed their company and many outings.
Max is predeceased by Gene Bennett, daughter Marsha Bennett, daughter Sharee Lynn Bennett, and grandson Ryan Bennett. Max is survived by son Dan Bennett (Cindy), son-in-law Vance Whelply, grandchildren: Michael Bennett (Megan), Paige Bennett (fiancé Conor Linekin) and three great grandchildren: Marley, Monrow, and Micah Bennett.
The family would like to thank Living in Serenity Personal Care Home for their love and care.
Gene and Max will be buried together in a Military Service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial contribution be made to a charity of your choice.
