Christine loved to read the Gospel and good books about the gospel. During her life she also enjoyed gardening, crocheting, painting, decorating, shopping, and other arts and crafts. She enjoyed genealogy work which she passed on to her children. She loved to vacation and saw a lot of the United Stated during her later years. She loved to visit with family. She was able to dip her toes in the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. She has been in a rainbow and yes she did find a great treasure, but not a pot of gold. She has been in the eye of Hurricane Alicia and survived the 500 year flood from Tropical Storm Allison. To escape the flood water she remarked that she had to climb Mount Everest, swim the mighty Mississippi River and float out on the African Queen (actually it was climbing a ladder to the roof top, then down the ladder to the flood waters, then swim to the fence and climb into a boat that took us to the main road). She wrote a poem that was published in the neighborhood paper to show her gratitude for newly paved roads which she had to travel multiple times daily taking children to and from school. She wrote a short music piece for school that she called "My Maiden Voyage". As a child she had too many memories of dinner consisting of cornbread and water. But she also had fun memories of swinging on grape vines, jumping on a Billy Bounce (board laid across a log) and playing with her brothers and sisters. She remembered washing diapers on a rub board for her mother and running across the fields and jumping fences to get her Aunt Emma when her next sibling was about to be born. She remembered covering her windows with blankets for the black outs during WW II. She remembered telling her Mother and Father of seeing her first television.
She has been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since 1960. She sought and found the truth she was looking for to help raise her children through Our Savior Jesus Christ and a Loving Heavenly Father. She had a strong and unfaltering faith in and testimony of Our Lord Jesus Christ, His Gospel and His Atoning Sacrifice for us. In most recent years she served as a Temple Worker, Primary Teacher, Young Women's Advisor and Ward Librarian.
She received her GED in 1984 and then attended San Jacinto College North where she studied music, choir and piano. She continued her informal education by reading and studying.
Christine's brothers Garland Parker and Thomas Parker preceded her in death. Her surviving siblings are Alice Clayborne, Faye Johns, Rex Parker, Glenda Ayers and Carolyn Little. Her daughters-in laws are Elizabeth Hill and Martha Hill. Her son-in-law is Jack Inman.
She will be truly missed by her children, but we know she is safe in Our Heavenly Father's care.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Brookside Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 am Monday, September 28, 2015 at Brookside Funeral Home Family Chapel with interment to follow in Brookside Memorial Park
