Melvin Finch

1930 – 2025

Left this world peacefully at his lovely home surrounded of love. He was always there to offer guidance, love and a hearty laugh.

He was born on July 19, 1930, in New Orleans, LA the son of John & Nancy Finch. He spent his first 7 years in New Orleans until the family moved to Houston in 1937.

He attended Harvard Elementary all Saints, Christ the king, St Thomas H.S and The University of Houston. He was a registered Professional Electrical Engineer in Texas Louisiana & California.

He held a Master Electrician’s License for The City of Houston and the State of Texas.

Mel also had a Real Estate Brokers License for the state of Texas.

Mel was drafted into the U.S. ARMY for the Korean war and served his time in Berlin Germany. He was responsible for the electrical design requirements for large industrial and commercial projects such as cogeneration plants, offshore Oil & Gas production platforms, hospitals, shopping centers, airport control towers, universities and many more.

His spare time was spent time at his 40-acre county place in Washington City, where he loved to dove hunt, fly fish and brush nogg with his Massey Ferguson tractor. Then have a cold bud light at sundown on the porch. Over a period of years, he totally restored to factory condition 3 Ford 1948 8N tractors. In Houston he was kept busy keeping his all original 1931 Chevy 5 window coupe and 1931 Chevy convertible touring around the neighborhood for all to see.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Florine Finch of 65 years, his parents, his sister Nancy Chmiel, his brother John I. Finch and his son Larry T. Finch. He is survived by his grandchildren Abigail, John, Isabell and Will.

A visitation will be held at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, located at 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077, on July 25, 2025, starting at 9:00 am.

He Will be laid to rest at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, also located at 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077, on July 25, 2025, beginning at 10:00 am.
