Melvin will be deeply missed by his wife of 58 years Barbara Thornton Perryman, son Melvin A. Perryman Jr., and daughter Sandra Perryman. He was also loved by his granddaughter Rachel Sheppard, her late husband Ben Sheppard, and their two children Laney (age 4) and Ben Sheppard Jr. (age 2).
Melvin was born in Levelland, Texas on September 1, 1942. He later moved to the Cypress Fairbanks area outside of Houston and graduated from Cy-Fair High School. It was there where he met his wife Barbara. They were engaged their senior year of high school and both graduated in 1960. Melvin was a very accomplished student and later became a high skilled electrician. He received his City of Houston Master Electrician’s License in 1972 when the city of Houston’s test was considered the hardest in the nation to pass.
His career led him to work at Edison Electric, MAP Electric and ARS. Melvin was a respected worker, leader, and teacher. For many years he taught night classes and trained electricians, all while working full time.
There are many other relatives, close family friends, and past co-workers who fondly remember Melvin. He enjoyed reflecting on past times and often proudly told stories of fond memories with so many whom he considered a friend. He cherished those memories of the good times throughout the years.
He was a true animal lover and enjoyed feeding the birds, squirrels and various animals that would come onto the property at his home in Cypress. His sweet dog Coco was adored by him.
