Menky emigrated to the United States from Yugoslavia following WW II in 1950. She became a naturalized citizen and was proud to be an American. She graduated from Revis High School in Burbank, IL.
Menky enjoyed international travel and was a member of the Joliet, IL, chapter of the Slovenian Union of America. After retiring from the Carmelite Spiritual Center in Darien, IL, she enjoyed spending summers at Lake Shelbyville in Sulivan, IL. She moved to Houston in 2022 to escape Illinois winters. She quickly adapted to the southern climate and became an active member of the Eagle’s Trace community where she lived out her days.
Menky was preceded in death by Ronald Mata, her husband of 51 years, her mother, Sylvia (Zupancic) Troop, and her grandson, RJ Mata. She is survived by her children Bob and Gretchen Mata, Gina (Mata) and Gary Koenig, Ted Mata, Bill and Michele Mata, along with 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
