Mike was a native Houstonian who was preceded in death by his parents : Ray Bahm Jr and Charlaine Belle Sears.
Mike grew up in the Spring Branch area of Houston with his family. He spent several summers in Louisiana with his Grandma Estelle.
Mike retired in 2012 after working for Texas Department of Transportation for over 30 years. For 21 years he was worked in the lab in Houston, first as a driller, then as the lab supervisor. He then transferred to Big Lake as a Maintenance supervisor for Reagan and Irion Counties for 5 ½ years, then spent the last 4 years as Maintenance supervisor for Leon County in Buffalo, TX.
Mike believed in service to others, he was a Brownie leader for both Dayna and Georgia for Inner City Houston Troops for 2 years, was a Junior Girl Scout leader for 2 years and participated in Girl Scout Adult Camping and Training.
One of Mike’s love was sailing ships, he volunteered on the ELISA in Galveston TX from 1990 to March 1992, he would heave lines, work on plumbing, provided maintenance and participated in a training program so he could go on day sails.
He spent much time in Boy Scouts with Michael. He was a committee member of the Mustang District, was a den leader for Bobcat, Wolf, Bear and Webelos. He was a Day Camp Director during the summer. He also participated in many Boy Scout Adult Leader trainings. He was active in the Urban Scout program. He earned one of the highest Adult Leader Training awards, the Silver Beaver, in 2003. Even after moving to West Texas, he continued to participate and was a Scout Leader in Big Lake for one year and on the District Committee for the Concho Valley Council. He could tell many stories about getting caught in a flash flood at Buffalo Trails Scout Ranch.
During all of this time, he was also a First Aid Instructor for Basic First Aid for the American Red Cross.
Mike had eclectic tastes in his music and his hobbies. His greatest regret was not being at Woodstock even though he was too young. He loved Janis Joplin music, Alice’s Restaurant and many others that his children would love to talk about. He was an avid collector of “rusty metal” and we spent many hours combing Canton and various flea markets for unique tools. He was also a collector of unique firearms, he was not a hunter but enjoyed the history behind the different short and long firearms. Woodworking was also a favorite activity. He had purchased commercial milling equipment from a mill in Galveston several years ago and had hoped to get it set up and running in his retirement.
